Metal Yoga
Combining metal music, Seven Doorways yoga and concepts from TCM for a less mainstream approach to "letting go"
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the metal element governs focus, boundaries and the core practice of letting go. Just as leaves fall when the season changes, we can be like the autumn trees shedding what doesn't serve us and moving forward with the essentials.
Incorporating heavy music and soundscapes, a yoga asana practice is easily connected to the metal element. The intentional environment brings the focus inward as we test our boundaries. The sounds move us rhythmically, and the body is primed for exploring attachments. For some, this can bring comfort and ease to the breath, allowing for flow states and approaching discomfort with a curious mind.
Metal yoga, in the Circle Pit Wellness space, is built on the Seven Doorways method and predominately incorporates two styles of mindful movement: 1) Vinyasa and 2) Yin yoga.
Vinyasa Flow
A series of strength-based yoga postures that connect with the breath during motion. It creates space to gain focus by flowing through the anatomical planes and axes of movement.
Yin Yoga
Strengthen patience and resilience by mobilizing the connective tissues. Yin yoga is an opportunity to challenge edges and use stillness for pushing boundaries. It's definitely not nap time.
Seven Doorways
This movement practice progresses through seven layers.
- Sacred space
- Ignite the spirit — breath training and pranayama
- Light the fire — vinyasa flow
- Stoke the fire: Logs — isometric holds and near-death experience
- Utilize the fire — yin yoga
- Surrender — savasana
- Gratitude
